Chapter 1 of Michael and Michelle Gifting Adventures – What To Gift or Not To Gift

Must Read

It’s a scene you barely have to imagine — because you’ve been there before, lived it before, and done it before. It’s your birthday, and you’re celebrating with all your besties. They’ve brought all kinds of well-meaning gifts that they think you are dying to have, and you smile and gush as you open one after the other, your bright smile masking your great disappointment, while thinking about all the presents you’ll have to re-gift. You make a mental note of how long to keep and showcase each present before you can re-wrap and send it along its merry way.

still, these are your friends, and you know they love you, they mean well, and have gone through the trouble to buy what they think is the perfect gift, so you grin, and you grin, and you bear it, and you offer some ‘oohh’s and ahhh’s’ to boot.

On one such occasion, Michelle, your everyday social butterfly, and Manhattan Upper West Sider is out with friends at a birthday brunch. She had whispered and hinted to them all month about what she wanted for a gift, since she knew they would insist on getting her something. Still, they were generally clueless gift givers. In fact, Sue, with whom she had one of her longest friendships, remembered a conversation where Michelle mentioned a puppet theater she used to enjoy as a child, so Sue thought it would be ‘great’ to get her a sock puppet for her birthday gift. (Oy vey! … and no, we can’t sue Sue.) Only one friend, Emily, came through with a beautiful and adorable silk scarf that was exactly Michelle’s style, and quickly her favorite scarf. On the Uber ride home, where she lived with her fiancé, Michael, Michelle shuddered to think of what he might have up his sleeve for later, when they celebrate. She’ll have to grin and bear it; she didn’t want to hurt his feelings, but she made a mental note that next year … next year, she’ll just have to confess what she wanted, or write down her wish list in plain sight, and no more beating around the bush.

Well, Michelle doesn’t know it yet, but those in the know, have heard of a social gift registry, www.bunchful.com, where your friends can see exactly what you want. Bunchful has been in development and the platform will be coming soon, making it easy for your friends to see all the things you love, so they know exactly what you want, and you don’t have to wait for a big wedding or a special announcement baby shower to be on the Bunchful gift registry. Bunchful is for social and everyday use, and gives everyone permission to celebrate their lives every day, for big and small events, or nothing at all. In fact, the Bunchful vision is to help the world give and receive love … but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Join the Bunchful Newsletter to stay in the know, and to stay tuned-in to see what happens next at Michelle’s birthday dinner with Michael. I hear he has some hilarious ideas of what he thinks is the perfect gift.
