August Pfluger honors late oilman and philanthropist Jim Henry

WASHINGTON D.C., DC — Permian Basin Resources founder and philanthropist, Jim Henry, passed away on Oct. 17.

Congressman August Pfluger carried his legacy to the nation’s capital, honoring all the work he’s done for our community. 

“Mr. Speaker I rise today to honor the life and the legacy of Mr. Jim Henry, whose legacy is one of true innovation and foresight,” Pfluger said. “His pioneering work in the Permian Basin oil fields and particularly in the Wolfberry Play laid the groundwork for the shale revolution that reinvigorated the entire region. His dedication, expertise, and tireless efforts transformed not only the industry but the lives of countless families throughout America and beyond. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Henry was known for his generous spirit in his philanthropy he understood the importance of giving back to the community that had given him so much as a prominent businessman in Midland, Texas said he was a legend and a sweet man at the same time, a rare combination, his legacy will be forever woven into the fabric of the Permian Basin, a testament to the power of vision, hard work, and dedication. Mr. Henry’s family and loved ones are in my prayers and in my thoughts. Our community will continue to honor Jim’s remarkable achievements and his positive impacts on the world.”

Jim and Paula Henry’s charitable endowments helped Midland College build many of its facilities and programs, including the Henry Innovations Center, engineering programs and most recently the Pre-K Academy. 

The Henry Foundation is also giving back with the Paula and Jim Henry Endowed Alumni Scholarship at Midland College, which will be offered to graduates looking to pursue a career in history and engineering.
