The prompt asks Woolworths shoppers if they’d like to round up their shopping total to a whole dollar amount and give the excess amount to non-for-profit organisations.

Customers can then tap on “yes” to proceed with the donation, or “no” to opt out of giving extra money.

“Has anyone else just had a f***ing gutful of this forced philanthropy shakedown every time you go to the f***ing supermarket?” she asked in the video.

“And I know what you’re going to say, you can say to me ‘Oh you know you can just say no’ or ‘You can just press no’.

“But here’s the thing. I do press no because I’m just morally opposed to multi-billion dollar companies doing shakedowns of consumers when they just want to buy red grapes and tampons.

“So this is a little message to Woolworths: No, I don’t want my 85c refund. What I do want is for you as a multi-million dollar conglomerate to start making these donations your f***ing selves.”

Other TikTok users agreed with the Woolies shopper’s frustration.

“Honestly, I’m already struggling to pay for the tampons and grapes, that’s 85c that I’ll need tomorrow when I have to buy milk and bread,” said one.

Another wrote: “Amen! I used to feel guilty saying no, but f*** it, I’m just an average single mum trying to do my best.”

A third added: “Preach it sister.”

Another responded: “They also use it as a tax deduction.”

Woolworths responds

In a statement to 7NEWS.com.au, a Woolworths spokesperson defended the prompts for donations on self-serve registers, saying the round-up option has raised millions for charity.

“At Woolworths, supporting Australian communities is a top priority,” the spokesperson said.

“In addition to our ongoing investment with our community partners and not-for-profit organisations, Woolworths customers are given the option to make a small change donation at our self-service checkouts.

“This is an entirely voluntary donation that customers can choose to make or decline, at their own discretion.“In the last two years, the round up option has helped raise millions of dollars for our various community partners.

“We’d like to thank our customers for their ongoing support of these community initiatives and a reminder that there is no obligation on customers to donate.”
