Gandhinagar: Launching the Union government’s ‘Ayushman Bhava’ campaign, virtually from Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar on Wednesday, President Droupadi Murmu said optimum delivery of health schemes to every intended beneficiary, including those in the last mile, will lead to achieving the goal of universal health coverage.
Ayushman Bhava is a comprehensive nationwide healthcare initiative that aims to provide saturation coverage of healthcare services in every village and town in the country.
Murmu also virtually launched the Ayushman Bhava portal from Raj Bhavan, saying these initiatives mark a “significant leap” towards ensuring healthcare for all as they strive to further consolidate accessibility and affordability of healthcare services, particularly for the underserved.
“I have been told that a multi-ministerial approach is being taken to implement the programme. To achieve such a big target everyone’s cooperation is critical,” the President said.
“No person should be left behind and no village should be left behind i.e. 100 per cent people can avail themselves of health services. This goal will make our country successful in achieving the objective of universal health coverage in a true sense,” the President said.
The President said Mahatma Gandhi’s thought of ‘antodaya’ is at the centre of the campaign to provide comprehensive health services to every person in all villages of the country. She noted that G20 member countries also have charted a roadmap for achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs).
“The government of India has set localized sustainable development goals to achieve the UN’s SDG 2030. Under this, a major focus is on development works at the rural level,” Murmu said. She added that village panchayats that successfully implement health schemes will earn the title of ‘Ayushman Gram Panchayat’ or ‘Ayushman Urban Ward,’ reflecting dedication to equitable healthcare provision.
Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the campaign will be implemented during the ‘Seva Pakhwada’ starting from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17 and will continue till October 2.
He added that the campaign will involve a collaborative effort by village panchayats, the department of health, other government departments and local bodies in urban and rural areas.
