The University of Dubrovnik has made its debut on the newly published Times Higher Education Impact ranking. This is the sole global ranking that evaluates universities’ contributions in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year’s ranking saw a record number of participants, with 1,591 institutions from around the globe. The ranking is based on data from universities across 17 categories that align with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. UNIDU was ranked in 15 out of 17 Sustainable Development Goals and overall, it occupied a position in the 1,001+ category.
UNIDU achieved its best results in Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), where it ranked 301-400 out of 960 institutions ranked according to this goal, and in Goal 14 (Life Below Water), where it ranked 201-300 out of 504 ranked institutions. In these categories, UNIDU was rated above the median in terms of the relevance of its research for achieving the UN’s sustainable development goals, its contribution to the sustainability of aquatic ecosystems, and its care for employees.
“Sustainability is a theme that is woven into all the strategic documents of the University of Dubrovnik. A large number of our scientific and professional projects deal with this very topic, and we continuously explore the possibilities of applying the principles of sustainability in the everyday operations of the university. We see our inclusion in the THE Impact ranking in the year when we celebrate our 20th anniversary as recognition for the efforts we put into our scientific and social mission in promoting sustainable development of the community in which we operate and with which we grow together,” said the rector of the University of Dubrovnik, Prof. Dr. Sc. Nikša Burum.
