South Carolina born billionaire has signed The Giving Pledge promising to give away 99% of his billion-dollar fortune.

I often write about entrepreneurs and business leaders who are being charitable with their wealth and give back to their local communities.
Today I wanted to write about Ravenell Curry III- a billionaire born in South Carolina who recently promised to give away most of his fortune.
Let’s take a quick look at his story.
Ravenel Curry III was born in Greenville, South Carolina. He grew up in Greenville and graduated from Furman University in 1963.
In 1988 he founded Eagle Capital Management, an investment management firm, with his wife, Beth. The company’s success led to the Currys amassing a multi-million dollar fortune. To ensure they could assist others in need, they established the Ravenel and Elizabeth Curry Foundation.
Sadly Beth passed away in 2015, but Ravenel has continued with his philanthropy. This culminated with him signing the Giving Pledge last month, in which he promised to donate 99% of his fortune.
“I pledge to give away 99% of the wealth that my late-wife Beth and I have earned—during my lifetime or at my death if I do not live long enough to finish giving it in a thoughtful way…These philanthropical investments will continue to emphasize poverty eradication, high-quality education, medical and scientific research, and government policy research. In addition our giving will also focus on programs that promote individual freedom, economic liberty, and personal responsibility, principles drawn by the founders of our country.” Ravenel Curry III
Curry has supported many organizations including his South Carolina alma mater and this pledge will no doubt lead to supporting many more.
