Australian cloud-based accounting firm, Oyster Hub has set its sights on giving back to Fiji and uplifting local village schools.
Founders Adarsh Dutt and Vik Naidu, both Fiji-born, engaged the services of local outsourcing agency Nearshore in January of 2023 and now have 6 staff members based in Fiji through Nearshore.
Started six years ago and now reportedly a reasonably well-connected business, Oyster Hub was able to expand to community projects under its Oyster Tribe and Oyster Care programs.
The Oyster Tribe project works predominantly with Indigenous people in Australia to uplift their communities, and with a Fiji-based team now, the company plans to do similar social projects in Fiji. The Oyster Hub Fiji team and the co-founders visited Mauivuso Village to engage with the people on the ground about how they can best serve the village’s needs, and found education to be a priority area.
“We want to make noise in Australia, get people involved in giving back here,” Mr Dutt said.
“We can leverage our position there and help provide what these people need. And education is something that can solve poverty and other need gaps. At Oyster hub we’re very connected to the UN so we’re geared towards the 17 UN goals. And one of them is developing remote communities.”
“Now that we’re here for the long-term we need to do something for the community,” co-founder Mr Naidu said.
“In a way we’re taking some of that knowledge from the villages in the form of staff that now works for us so it’s only apt that we give back as well.”
In-house manager for the Oyster Hub Fiji staff, Joni Bale said, “From our perspective if they can’t get an education they’ll still be there.
“So, if we can help educate them, help foster that ambition into them then maybe that will help.”
Oyster Hub intends to bring the concerns of local villages to client companies in Australia and any who may be seeking ways to fulfil their corporate social responsibility by uplifting villages in Fiji.
