Swisher, a family-owned company headquartered in Jacksonville, announced its renewed commitment to community engagement June 2 by pledging to donate $1 million in 2023.
Marisa Brighton, Swisher’s senior director of community engagement, leads the strategy.
A news release says the 162-year-old company, which makes tobacco products, is placing emphasis on supporting community causes that tie directly to its core values and shared priorities with employees.
“Swisher has long been recognized for its dedication to community service and philanthropy in Jacksonville and beyond. We are reigniting our legacy by forging deeper connections and cultivating enduring partnerships that enhance the quality of life for our community,” Brighton said in the release.
Swisher’s philanthropic efforts will focus on four areas: supporting America’s heroes and families, community health and well-being, community revitalization and higher education.
“As a family-owned company, we carry a profound sense of responsibility to make meaningful investments in the communities where we live and operate,” Swisher President and CEO Neil Kiely said in the release.
The release states the investment of at least $1 million will primarily focus on Jacksonville, home of Swisher’s U.S. headquarters. Funds will be channeled through partnerships with local and national organizations that align with Swisher’s core values and strategic focus areas.
Swisher also has a manufacturing presence in Santiago, Dominican Republic; Esteli, Nicaragua; and Wheeling, West Virginia.
Known for Swisher Sweets Cigars, Swisher continues to expand its offerings to include smokeless tobacco products, premium cigars and non-tobacco brands.
In 2024, Swisher will celebrate 100 years of continuous operations in Jacksonville.
