GRAND RAPIDS, MI — The Steelcase Foundation has hired Stacy Stout as its inaugural director of family-centered philanthropy.

In her new role, Stout, who formerly oversaw equity and engagement efforts at the city of Grand Rapids, will be tasked with leading the design, implementation and evaluation of the foundation’s future approach to family-centered partnerships, the foundation said in a news release.

“Stacy’s leadership in engagement and equity across various sectors demonstrates her dedication to and effectiveness in driving positive change,” Steelcase Foundation President Daniel Williams said in a statement. “As we continue to evolve in our work towards the centering of voices of those most impacted by unjust and harmful systems, celebrating the inherent brilliance of our community, having Stacy join our team is a tremendous asset.”

A news release did not elaborate or describe the foundation’s family-centered partnership work. No one from the foundation was immediately available Tuesday afternoon to provide a fuller description of the work, how it fits into the foundation’s mission, and whether it represents a change in focus for the foundation.

Stout previously served as director of engagement and equity at the city of Grand Rapids. There, she helped establish and lead the the city’s diversity, equity and inclusion strategies, policies and training. Prior to joining the city, she worked as a program manager at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and, before that, the dean of student accountability at Grand Rapids Public Schools.

In addition, she also serves a board member at KConnect, a nonprofit focused on ensuring all children in Kent County have a path to prosperity through quality education, family, and community support. She’s also a member of the Grand Rapids Public Schools Native American Education Program Parent Committee, and a co-founder and board member of the Latina Network of West Michigan.

The Steelcase Foundation provided a total of $4.4 million to an array of organizations in 2021, according to its most recent annual report. Recipients included schools, nonprofits, community groups, and arts and cultural organizations.
