Senior Philanthropy Officer – Midlevel Portfolio
Management

 

The Senior Philanthropy Officer (SPO) for Midlevel Portfolio
Management at Phoenix Children’s Foundation is responsible for
ensuring the fundraising success of the Gift Planning Program by
focusing on midlevel donors and prospects. Reporting to the
Associate Vice President of Gift Planning, the SPO will play a key
role in developing and implementing strategies for successful
solicitations and building strong relationships with midlevel
donors. Implementing personalized and targeted communication
strategies for midlevel donors, tailoring messages and updates to
align with donors’ interests and preferences, fostering a sense of
belonging and impact. This position will actively contribute to the
growth and expansion of the program, collaborating with colleagues
across the foundation to achieve annual metrics and financial
goals.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Midlevel Portfolio Management: Oversee and manage a large
    portfolio of midlevel donors, with a focus on cultivating and
    stewarding relationships with these valued supporters.
  • Midlevel Portfolio Growth: Develop and implement thoughtful,
    strategic cultivation and solicitation plans for midlevel planned
    giving donors to increase their philanthropic support over
    time.
  • Targeted Communications: Develop and execute in collaboration
    with the AVP, annual and midlevel gift officers, and marketing,
    targeted semi customized communications strategies for midlevel
    donors, utilizing a mix of multimedia channels.
  • Prospect Identification: Continuously identify and qualify new
    midlevel planned giving prospects to expand the pipeline of
    potential donors and strengthen the foundation’s midlevel donor
    base.
  • Relationship Building: Build and nurture strong relationships
    with midlevel donors and prospects, ensuring regular contact
    through various activities and communications, and face-to-face
    meetings where appropriate.
  • Gift Planning Education: Proactively share the benefits of
    deferred and planned giving with midlevel donors, both in person
    and in writing, to increase awareness and understanding of planned
    giving opportunities.
  • Senior Adult Engagement: Develop and implement tailored
    strategies to engage senior adults, building trust and rapport to
    identify and cultivate potential asset-based current gifts, such as
    appreciated securities, real estate, or retirement assets.
  • Strategic Gift Planning: Identify and develop joint and blended
    giving opportunities in collaboration with colleagues from various
    departments within the foundation. Work towards successful
    solicitations to secure current and legacy gifts from midlevel
    donors.
  • Legacy Society Cultivation: Understanding the importance of the
    organization’s Legacy Society, cultivating and stewarding
    relationships with current and prospective legacy donors to
    encourage and facilitate planned gifts in support of the
    organization’s mission.
  • Gift Planning Expertise: Provide technical expertise and
    options to fundraising colleagues to support their efforts in
    securing planned gifts from midlevel donors. Participate in
    prospect meetings as needed, offering coaching, proposal language
    and relevant information.
  • Gift Planning Trends: Stay updated on gift planning trends,
    opportunities, and related legislation. Provide regular updates to
    colleagues and contribute to the foundation’s knowledge base.
  • Problem-Solving and Communication: Demonstrate discretion,
    tact, and strong communication skills in resolving issues and
    maintaining positive relationships with midlevel donors and
    colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in fundraising, development,
    or a related field in a non-profit environment.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a gift planning professional
    in a sophisticated development or fundraising operation, with a
    strong focus on midlevel donors.
  • Experience in a medical or academic development setting is
    strongly encouraged.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s in business, philanthropy, or a
    related field.
  • CFRE preferred.
  • Proven track record in managing and growing a midlevel donor
    portfolio and achieving fundraising goals with midlevel
    donors.
  • Knowledge of planned giving strategies and techniques,
    especially as they relate to midlevel donors.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with
    a particular ability to engage midlevel donors and build
    rapport.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented individual with a
    commitment to philanthropy and the foundation’s mission.

 

 

Reporting: The Senior Philanthropy Officer will report directly
to the Associate Vice President of Gift Planning and work
collaboratively with colleagues across the foundation.
