Rebel Legacy Campaign Inspires Students to Embrace Philanthropy

Must Read

During the 2022-23 academic year, the UNLV Foundation’s annual giving team introduced Rebel Legacy, a fresh new student philanthropy initiative. From its official launch at Grad Fest in October through commencement ceremonies in May, the campaign garnered support from 367 individuals and successfully raised a total of $7,742.

Heartfelt messages and donations were contributed to the campaign by students from almost every academic unit and college, with some donations being made in memory of their loved ones. A student from the College of Education, who chose to remain anonymous, donated to the William S. Boyd School of Law, noting how the immigration clinic enables DACA Dreamers to pursue their happiness. A student from Lee Business School donated to the Military and Veteran Services Center to honor those serving our country and continuing their education at UNLV.

Students gave gifts to honor their class years: $20.22 for 2022 and $20.23 for 2023. They contributed to the areas they cherished the most or those that significantly impacted their experience as a Rebel. In return, donors were given a green cord to symbolize their generosity, which they could wear during their commencement ceremony.

Support was provided by members across the UNLV community, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, parents, and alumni. Students representing nearly all academic colleges and schools proudly donned green generosity cords during their respective commencement ceremonies in the fall and spring of the current school year.

According to Bre Flynn, the team lead of the Rebel Legacy Campaign, 38 areas on campus have received support. These areas include the UNLV Fund, which attends to the university’s immediate needs, as well as the UNLV Food Pantry, the UNLV First-Generation Scholarship Fund, and other programs and academic units. The Annual Giving team extends their appreciation to all campus partners and donors who helped make the campaign a success looks forward to expanding this tradition at UNLV with the Rebel Legacy Campaign in the future.
