Q-and-A with Chukkers for Charity Co-Chairs, Falon Veit Scott and Nina Lindley

Must Read

Chukkers for Charity raises funds in a fabulously exciting event featuring the game of polo, a thrilling equestrian endeavor that has been referred to as the “sport of kings” and is usually considered a spectator sport for the upper crust.

However, Chukkers for Charity is anything but stuffy. In fact, it’s one big, fun, festive party at Orrin Ingram’s farm, with spectators coming dressed on asthetic—this year that’s Passport to Paradise, a tropical island theme.Tent sponsors will also get in on the action by decorating their tents on theme for judging. It will be an afternoon full of fun and excitement for adults and children alike—and of course, divot stomping—all to support Rochelle Center, which offers support for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and Saddle Up!, which provides children and young adults with disabilities the opportunity to grow and develop through therapeutic, educational and recreational activities with horses.

We loved our visit with the 2023 Chukkers for Charity co-chairs Falon Veit Scott and Nina Lindley. Get to know these powerhouse philanthropists.

Nashville Lifestyles: What made you want to co-chair this year’s Chukkers for Charity?

Falon Veit Scott: Years ago, I co-chaired the event and recently one of the nonprofit beneficiaries asked me to come back. I love how Saddle Up! helps so many kids and it’s a great way for me to utilize my event management skills to create one of Nashville’s most special sporting events and one of my favorites as well. The beneficiaries are amazing, and I’m thrilled to be involved again.

Nina Lindley: Chukkers for Charity was one of the first events I attended with my husband when I moved here 22 years ago. I’ve always been inspired by the positive impact Saddle Up! and Rochelle Center have on the children, youth, and adults with disabilities through their programs and services. As an active volunteer, I hear amazing and very powerful stories of emotional growth, physical development, and increased independence.

NL: How are the funds raised utilized and how much has been raised over the years?

FVS: Since 1996, Chukkers has raised more than $2.6 million to support programs and services of Rochelle Center and Saddle Up! These two respected nonprofit organizations provide essential services to people with disabilities in Middle Tennessee.

NL: My older brother Joey is deaf and has other physical and intellectual disabilities. Our family had horses and other animals growing up. Joey grew exponentially in his abilities and confidence through his involvement with animals. Fifty years ago, little did my parents know that they were giving Joey equine and animal therapy that would positively change Joey’s life forever. Equine therapy is at the heart of Saddle Up!’s programs and mission. Every year, Rochelle Center and Saddle Up! provide essential programs and services that impact hundreds of families in communities all across Middle Tennessee.

NL: Regarding philanthropy, who has influenced you the most?

FVS: I honestly do this on my own without influence. I hope to inspire others to do the same because I get so much out of seeing the results for those in need.

NL: Both my parents were always very involved in community outreach programs and charitable events, especially focused on enriching the lives of those with disabilities. One of their favorite charities has always been Special Olympics. They would volunteer throughout the year for Special Olympics and especially loved helping at the Summer Games at UCLA.

NL: What inspires you to use your time, talents, and treasure to support nonprofits?

FVS: I have always believed that nonprofits should experience the same quality of service as any multinational corporation. It’s partially why I started my company, EES Agency, in 2012. The work and influence that non-profits have within their community should not only be taken seriously, but elevated in a way that pushes each initiative to the highest level of performance.

NL: Growing up with a brother with disabilities, I saw all that my parents had to do to make my brother’s life full and enriched. Joey attended many special education schools and programs. These experiences were vital to Joey’s development. My goal for being a Chukkers for Charity co-chair for six years is to raise money for both charities to make way for more children, youth, and adults to have access to therapies and services at Saddle Up! and Rochelle Center.
