A Little TLC for Teens

Irvine-based teen retailer Tilly’s Inc. (NYSE: TLYS) hosted its “Superhero Scramble” 16th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Mission Viejo Country Club on April 24. The sold-out event raised nearly $250,000 to support Tilly’s Life Center programs for teens and young adults.

“For 16 years, industry leaders, the community and our generous sponsors have rallied together to support our TLC teens so that they can live a happy, fulfilled, and positive life,” said Tilly Levine, co-founder of Tilly’s and founder of Tilly’s Life Center. “None of this would be possible without them and we are so grateful to make a difference in the lives of thousands of teens each year.”

The golf tournament began with a shotgun start with contests and giveaways along the way, including closest-to-the-pin, longest drive, and two hole-in-one contests to win a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee lease or a private jet and tickets for four to the Stars and Stripes Cabo San Lucas fundraiser in June.

The event included on-course sponsorships from Direct Edge, Elephant Cooperation, Liquid Graphics, Oakley, Roxy/Quicksilver, Volcom and others.

Golfers enjoyed food and drink sponsors along the way, including Wahoo’s Fish Taco, Sammy’s Beach Bar Cocktail Co., San Diego Distillery, Surf City Full Bore, Board & Brew, Grey Coast Irish Whiskey, Chronic Tacos, Tap Truck OC, 805 Beer, Fat Tire, Dang Brother Pizza and Archie’s Ice Cream.

Following the event, attendees enjoyed a theme-based cocktail party and awards ceremony, with food and drinks provided by Starfish Laguna Beach.

Additional sponsors included Arcade Belts, Sun Bum, Reebok, Jansport, 60th Place Solutions, Alliant Insurance, Fairway Staffing, KD Kanopy, Hydroflask, Toms, Igloo, Electric Eyewear and Urban Decay.

For the Love of Music

The Philharmonic Society of Orange County presented its 2023 Gala featuring Yo-Yo Ma, multi-Grammy Award-winning cellist, and Kathryn Stott, Ma’s longtime collaborator and pianist, on April 4 at Segerstrom Center for the Arts.

The $750,000 raised by the event will benefit the Philharmonic Society’s artistic, education, and community programs.

Nearly 200 guests attended the black-tie event, which was held at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. The evening’s festivities began with a cocktail hour, followed by dinner catered by Patina Restaurant Group, with wine provided by Waters Edge Winery, then a dessert course.

The evening included a silent and live auction, as well as Fund a Need paddle raise, where guests raised more than $350,000 to support the Philharmonic Society’s Strike Up the Band program, which fosters appreciation of music within Orange County’s youth by granting musical instruments, teaching materials, supplies, and other requested items to local schools.

Following dinner, guests made their way to Segerstrom Hall to enjoy the sold-out concert by Ma and Stott. The concert showcased music from their recently released recording Songs of Comfort and Hope.

The evening also marked what would have been the eve of Henry Segerstrom’s 100th birthday. Segerstrom, who died in 2015, was managing partner, C.J. Segerstrom & Sons, and founding chairman of Segerstrom Center for the Arts, formerly known as the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

“[Henry] was more than just a philanthropist. He was an avid patron and supporter of the arts,” said Tommy Phillips, president and artistic director, Philharmonic Society. “It is because of his vision and legacy that the Philharmonic Society, the Pacific Symphony, the Pacific Chorale, and the Center itself exist today.”

Brighter Futures Made Here

Laura’s House announced the launch of the Digital Safety Initiative at its eighth annual Brighter Futures Luncheon, which was held on April 28 at the Vea Newport Beach, A Marriott Resort & Spa, which was attended by more than 260 community, nonprofit and business leaders.

The luncheon raised about $60,000.

Event sponsors included Alice and Olivia, Boscia, Botanica Floral, Daou Winery, Exotica Designs, Kendra Scott, Roger’s Gardens, South Coast Plaza, Tory Burch, and Vea Newport Beach.
