Tarsadia Foundation awarded Illumination Foundation a $500,000 grant to provide housing and healthcare for those experiencing homelessness.

“Access to housing and healthcare are critical to the overall health of our communities,” said Maya Patel, executive chair, Tarsadia Foundation. “Illumination Foundation has an integrated model that provides compassionate housing and healthcare services for everyone, from families to seniors. This gift is an investment in our community and future generations.”

“Over the past 15 years, Illumination Foundation has worked with vulnerable individuals and families to provide housing and healthcare services,” said Dr. Pooja Bhalla, co-CEO, Illumination Foundation. “We are grateful for Tarsadia Foundation’s generosity and commitment to create systemwide change to address the homelessness crisis.”

Tarsadia Foundation was established in 1999 by Bhikhubhai Ukabhai “BU” Patel, founder and vice chairman, Tarsadia Hotels, as a global family foundation focused on breaking the cycle of poverty, creating opportunities for the underserved, and serving organizations like Illumination Foundation that are helping communities thrive.

An Ace in the Club

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Anaheim-Cypress hosted its annual Ace of Clubs Casino Night on March 19 at The Ranch Restaurant & Saloon in Anaheim.

The event raised more than $180,000, which will support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Anaheim-Cypress’ free and low-cost after-school and summer programs that promote academic achievement, health, and character for young people ages kindergarten through 12th grade.

Extron and The Ranch Restaurant & Saloon shared the Title Sponsor title for the evening.

“We are proud to support The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Anaheim-Cypress, in their efforts to provide a place where thousands of community children can feel a sense of belonging, take charge of their lives, and strive to reach their full potential,” said Andrew Edwards, founder and chairman, Extron and president and owner, The Ranch Restaurant & Saloon.

Event sponsors also included Related Management Co., Jeff’s Inviting Food & Spirits, Disneyland Resort, Anaheim White House, Angels Baseball, Pacific Western Bank, Republic Services, US Bank, Workers United Local 50, Anaheim Public Utilities, Orange County Professional Firefighters Association, The Emanuele Family Trust, North OC Community College District, Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim, Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cypress, SA Recycling, Anaheim Firefighter Association and Madeline Zuckerman Marketing & Public Relations Inc.

Ashleigh Aitken, Anaheim’s mayor, served as the event’s Honorary Chair, with Henry DiCarlo, KTLA Channel 5, serving as the evening’s Celebrity Emcee.

The sold-out crowd of more than 200 guests enjoyed festivities including a hosted bar and hors d’oeuvres, dinner, both a live and silent auction, casino games, and live entertainment including a Jazz Band and magician.

Brain Food for Kids

More than 200 corporate and community leaders, education experts, and donors gathered at the Newport Beach Country Club on March 24 for Pretend City Children’s Museum’s 6th Annual Start Smart Luncheon.

The event raised more than $150,000, with proceeds funding early childhood programming for the educational nonprofit.

The luncheon featured a panel of education and business experts, including Wendy Altamirano, executive director, Thompson Autism Center, CHOC; Lauren Brand, PsyD, executive director, operations, Be Well OC; Jenny Woo, Ph.D., founder, Mind Brain Parenting; and Ed Lee, co-founder, Wahoo’s Fish Taco.

The panelists spoke on the topic of resilience, including how to model resiliency as a parent, when to call upon it, and what it looks like in the workplace.

Alteryx, Lyon Air Museum, Capital Group, Ernst & Young, London Consulting Group, OC Music & Dance and PNC Bank were among the luncheon’s sponsors.

Bits & Pieces

The 12th Annual Love Grows by Giving wine tasting event, held on Feb. 24 at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach, raised more than $85,000, with all proceeds supporting the Waymakers Huntington Beach Youth Shelter. …

Laguna Art Museum has been awarded a $178,000 from the California Cultural and Historical Endowment Museum Grant in support of the museum’s Create Access Program, which provides free educational student tours and hands-on art classes that build history studies, language arts and art skills for K-12 Title 1 students in Orange County. …

The inaugural Battle of the Paddle pickleball tournament, with sponsors that included Paycor, Oak at Laguna Beach, Veloz Pickleball and Concentrix, was held on March 31 and raised more than $5,000, which will be used to purchase professional outfits for 22 students at the Samueli Academy to wear for first job interviews.
