Helping veterans

Ocean State Job Lot is holding its annual “Buy, Give, Get” coat donation program to benefit veterans in need. Between now and Jan. 3, 2024, any customer who buys a warm coat at a Job Lot location for $40 and gives it back to the store as a donation to a veteran in need will receive a $40 gift card. Approximately 55,000 winter coats will be available for purchase during the coat drive.

 

Walking in step

The Epilepsy Foundation New England will hold its Rhode Island Walk for Epilepsy on Sunday, Oct. 29, at 10 a.m. at Slater Memorial Park, 401 Newport Ave., Pawtucket. The event will include the walk and crafts, as well as various children’s activities. Dressing for Halloween is encouraged. Registration costs $25 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and younger. Dog registration is $10. Proceeds will support research and treatment for epilepsy. For more information and to register, visit the organization’s website.

Raising funds in good taste

Child & Family will hold its 40th annual Taste of Newport fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 29, at 5:30 p.m. at the Wyndham Newport Hotel, 240 Aquidneck Ave., Middletown. The event will feature food from various local eateries and beverage vendors. There will also be an online auction and raffles. Tickets cost $150 and proceeds will support the organization, which assists families and children in crisis. For more information, visit Child & Family’s website.

Night at the derby

The Tomorrow Fund will hold its 35th annual Gala, themed “An Evening at the Derby,” on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 6 p.m. through midnight at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet, 60 Rhodes Place, Cranston. The evening event will include dinner, dancing, and live and silent auctions. All proceeds will benefit The Tomorrow Fund, the only local nonprofit organization that provides daily financial and emotional support to children with cancer and their families who are treated at The Tomorrow Fund Clinic at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Having a ‘ball’

Sojourner House will host its 13th annual Masquerade Ball on Friday, Nov. 17, from 7-11 p.m. at the Graduate Providence, 11 Dorrance St., Providence. The event will include an astrological-inspired cocktail hour, a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and live performances. Sojourner House will sponsor a celestial-themed dessert contest and challenge the city’s best bakeries. Tickets cost $125 and proceeds will go toward the organization, which supports those who have experienced domestic abuse. For more information, visit the Sojourner House’s website.
