Parliament discusses implementation of Sustainable Development Goals in Kyrgyzstan
AKIPRESS.COM – Parliament conducted an extensive meeting of the working group tasked with monitoring the implementation of legislation related to the Sustainable Development Goals in the Kyrgyz Republic on June 23.
The discussion involved the MPs, representatives from government agencies, international organizations, civil society, and experts. The meeting was chaired by MP Chingiz Aidarbekov.
Aidarbekov emphasized that the primary objective of the working group’s meeting on SDGs was to facilitate open dialogue, collaboration, and the development of concrete solutions to advance the SDGs in the Kyrgyz Republic.
During the session, MP Omurbek Bakirov highlighted the challenges related to effective water management in the context of achieving the SDGs in Kyrgyzstan. He underscored the need for an integrated approach to water resource management, which encompasses providing the population with access to clean drinking water, safeguarding the ecosystem, modernizing relevant infrastructure, and enhancing collaboration with international organizations.
The meeting attendees discussed various topics, including environmental protection, education sector reform, and the state of human rights, among others. At the conclusion of the deliberations, the participants of the meeting reached a decision on the SDG working group, taking into account the comments and suggestions put forth.
The meeting was also attended by Speaker Nurlanbek Shakiev, United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in the Kyrgyz Republic Antje Grawe, and Acting UNDP Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic Alamgir Hossain.
