North Texas nonprofits raise just under $64 million on Giving Day

Must Read

The 15th annual North Texas Giving Day raised $63.9 million for Dallas-Fort Worth charities on Thursday, with donations to over 3,2000 nonprofits.

The fundraising total topped last year’s $62.6 million, with organizers crediting donors for their generosity at a time when philanthropic giving is down nationally. Donations ranging from $1 to $200,000 came from more than 97,000 people.

“While I am new to the North Texas community …, I am not new to the profound impact that generosity and giving have on our quality of life,” Communities Foundation of Texas CEO Wayne White said in a statement. “Seeing North Texans’ legendary generosity up close and personal this Giving Day has been truly remarkable.”

This year’s total brings Giving Day’s 15-year tally to more than $560 million, White said. Donations came from all 50 states and over 40 countries.

Communities Foundation of Texas launched the annual event in 2009 and it has since grown to include 20 North Texas counties, making it one of the nation’s largest regional online giving efforts. In 2021, the event raised a record $66 million.

Two of the biggest beneficiaries this year are the North Texas Food Bank, which collected almost $1.5 million in gifts, and Westlake Academy Foundation, which brought in over $1 million. Westlake Academy is a municipally-operated, public charter school for students in kindergarten through grade 12.

A full list can be viewed on the Giving Day website. Totals will be verified in coming weeks, with updated results available after Oct. 31.
