The Kern Economic Development Foundation (KEDF), a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing STEM workforce development education in Kern County, recently announced the election of new officers and board members for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
The newly elected Board officers are:
- Chair: Christina Scrivner, Market Director of Philanthropy, Adventist Health: “It is an honor to serve as the incoming chair of the Kern Economic Development Foundation. The vision and mission to support awareness of STEM careers and education opportunities in our community are essential to support the future workforce of Kern County’s growing economy.”
- Vice Chair: David Franz, Director of Education Partnership, City of Shafter
- Immediate Past Chair: Mark Wyatt, Principal, Bakersfield Adult School
“KEDF has been able to strengthen the relationship between local industry and education through our efforts, specifically the Career & STEM Expo,” Wyatt said. “I believe it’s the premier event of its kind in the entire state. I am also very thankful to have served under Richard Chapman’s leadership and board made up of local community leaders who are committed to Kern County’s future.”
Four new board members begin their three-year terms, effective July 1, 2023:
- Brandon Billings, Financial Advisor, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management
- Cheryl Scott, Executive Director, Bakersfield College Foundation
- Mikin Plummer, Executive Director, Kern County Builders Exchange
- Thatcher Weldon, Director of Workforce and Economic Development, Kern Community College District
KEDF partners with the Kern High School District on the annual Kern County Career & STEM Expo and sponsors the Kern Intern Connections (KIC) talent retention program as well as the Kern County Women in STEM initiative.
