VENICE – The Gulf Coast Community Foundation has tapped Phillip P. Lanham, currently chief philanthropy officer of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, as its new president and CEO, effective June 1.
David Green, president of the Gulf Coast board of directors, announced the choice in a Tuesday afternoon email, in which he noted that Lanham “has built a reputation for delivering bold and proactive initiatives and creating a culture of excellence.
Lanham, 47, succeeds Mark Prichett, who announced his retirement last July.
Lanham will become the fifth person to run the foundation, created in 1995 as the Venice Foundation with seed money from the sale of Venice Hospital to Bon Secours Health Systems.
Since then, Gulf Coast and its donors have invested more than $510 million in the community.
Pritchett said via text that he plans to start the transition this week and will hold weekly meetings with Lanham, who will relocate to the area this spring, along with his wife Tami and two sons.
Lanham could not be reached for comment.
After Pritchett announced his retirement following a 14-year tenure at Gulf Coast, the foundation’s CEO search committee worked with the executive search firm Russell Reynolds.
A Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy, Lanham earned his bachelor’s degree and MBA at the University of Cincinnati and has spent his career serving philanthropic and nonprofit communities.
He led the philanthropic partnerships team at the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, which provides guidance on relationships between donors, nonprofits, businesses and private foundations.
Lanham is the immediate past chairman of the Advancement Network for community foundations.
He also serves as vice chairman of the board of directors for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and the board of directors of the Music Hall Revitalization Company, which maintains the home of the Cincinnati Ballet, Cincinnati Opera, Cincinnati Symphony/Pops Orchestras, and May Festival.
“Phillip brings the right blend of intellect, creativity, and bold strategic focus to complement and advance Gulf Coast’s culture of excellence and commitment to our community,” Green said in a a prepared statement. “As a dedicated and passionate leader with a proven track record of delivering bold and proactive initiatives, we could not be more optimistic for the future of Gulf Coast Community Foundation and the impact Phillip will make.”
