As leader of the Murdock Trust, which has a relationship spanning five decades with our organization, Romanita’s insights will be an asset to our board. I look forward to the unique perspectives she will bring to Candid.”
As CEO of M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, Romanita Hairston draws on more than two decades of team building, convening, and leadership experience in the nonprofit, for-profit, board service, and philanthropic sectors to inform and animate her leadership and stewardship of the private foundation’s mission. Previously, she held a variety of roles at World Vision, including vice president of US programs. In 2016, she joined the Murdock Trust as a program director, working with nonprofits and leaders across various sectors to develop enrichment programs and convenings designed to serve the diverse needs of communities across the country. In 2018, Romanita pivoted to the private sector as global technical content portfolio director at Microsoft, where she led a global effort focused on understanding how to improve employability in higher education through technical skilling and workforce partnerships. Romanita also led the technical content portfolio management team responsible for skilling Microsoft’s global audience, as well as her department’s DEI efforts to build community and greater cultural competence. In 2022, she returned to the Murdock Trust as CEO.
Romanita graduated from the University of Washington and earned an MBA in global development and nonprofit management from Eastern University in Philadelphia. She founded MORE320, a nonprofit consulting company supporting organizations as they seek to effect social change. Romanita has also served on numerous boards.
Candid’s board chair, Rhett Mabry, president of The Duke Endowment, said, “We are excited to have Romanita join our board. She brings the kind of regional, national, and global insights Candid needs to support the social sector, including data privacy. She is a welcome addition to our board.”
