MONTEREY – Montage Health has launched a program with the goal of cultivating and sustaining a thriving local medical community. It is funded by a grant and a philanthropic gift.
The Center for Physician Excellence was created to support professional development, personal well-being and community connection for the nearly 500 local physicians affiliated with Montage Health.
“The Center for Physician Excellence is a program that offers physicians an array of resources, support and help,” said Montage Health spokesperson Monica Sciuto.
Though the Center is not an actual office where physicians can go for services, it provides access to many that doctors find helpful.
“When our doctors are supported, connected, and engaged, they are better equipped to provide patients with excellent health care,” said Melissa Rosenthal, director of Montage Health Center for Physician Excellence in a press release. “Our goal is to offer well-rounded, comprehensive services to support our medical staff, enabling them to provide excellent health care to our patients and community.”
Support is offered through multiple programs overseen by the Center for Physician Excellence.
“Physicians hear about what programs are offered through regular physician communications, events, through a dedicated physician support web page, and by contacting the director of the program,” said Sciuto.
The Center for Physician Excellence is described as a physician-driven effort, meaning that its programs, initiatives and operations are organized by physicians for physicians with an aim to cultivate and sustain a thriving local community, according to Montage Health.
The program offers physicians continuing education, clinical advancement and professional development opportunities to grow physician expertise, wellness services, physician grants program to grow skills and advancement in their fields, clinical efficiency supporting improvement initiatives, financial health programs including student loan support and financial planning, volunteer opportunities to give back to the local community and beyond and social events to connect doctors with colleagues, family and community.
Sciuto said that there is no cost for physicians to take advantage of most of the programs.
“We value our physicians’ work and dedication to the health of our community, and know they are vital to all we do today and in the future,” said Dr. Steven Packer, president/CEO of Montage Health in the release.
The Center for Physician Excellence is made possible through grant support from Montage Health Foundation and the Lucas Fund for Physician Excellence.
Montage Health Foundation supports the work of Montage Health through grant-making, volunteerism, and philanthropic partnerships with community members and like-minded organizations.
The Lucas Fund was created through a $5 million gift by local philanthropist Sally Lucas to Montage Health Foundation and is strengthened through ongoing gifts from the community.
“Recruiting and retaining the best doctors is critical to support the health and vitality of our community,” says Kevin Causey, vice president and chief development officer, Montage Health Foundation on the Center’s web page. “Montage Health Foundation is proud to support this important work and we’re grateful for the generous support of community partners like Sally Lucas and the Lucas Fund for Physician Excellence”.
Like many communities across the country, Monterey County is faced with a shortage of doctors, coupled with obstacles to recruitment, including the cost of housing and high cost of living, says Montage Health.
“My late husband Don and I felt blessed to have Community Hospital and their doctors available to us,” said Lucas in the release. “My desire is to make sure this continues in the future, and I hope this donation helps encourage brilliant doctors to come, live, and practice in this very special community.”
Montage Health is the nonprofit parent company of a family of health organizations including Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, Montage Medical Group, Montage Health Foundation, Montage Wellness Center, Aspire Health, and MoGo Urgent Care.
