On Sept. 26, The Community Foundation of Acadiana honored local and regional leaders who have made outstanding philanthropic contributions in their communities.
The 12th Annual Leaders in Philanthropy Awards took place at the City Club in Lafayette. The honorees were a distinguished group that included Sandy and Bob Giles of Lafayette, Lee and Patti Lawrence of Acadia Parish, Phyllis Taylor of Vermilion Parsh, Gary and Dr. Marelle Youngue Schoelerman of St. Martin Parish, and Martha Brown of Iberia Parish. Stuller, Inc. received the Corporate Award and UL Lafayette Baseball Coach Tony Robichaux was posthumously given the Community Impact Award.
All of the honorees were celebrated in their respective parishes. The Lafayette ceremony focused on local honorees. Sandy and Bob Giles accepted the award recognizing their many, many charitable causes. Sandy Giles is well known for her work with Acadiana Animal Aid. Her gracious and humorous acceptance speech focusing on her love for animals was one of the highlights of the evening.
Matt Stuller accepted the corporate award on behalf of Stuller Inc.’s many employees, to whom he gave much credit for the company’s success. Colleen Robichaux accepted the award on her husband’s behalf with a heartfelt tribute to his memory. To say the evening was inspiring would be an understatement. In a room full of standouts, these honorees stood out for their ability to inspire people to give back, no matter who you are or where you live. We congratulate them all for what they have done to make Louisiana a better place.
