Knock It Out of the Park on El Paso Giving Day

Must Read
By Julia Lucero

Teamwork makes the dream work! With the help of our community, we can all step up to the plate to act, give, and change, this year for El Paso Giving Day.

The Paso del Norte Community Foundation invites you to take part in the region’s largest and most significant day of charitable giving. El Paso Giving Day was founded in 2016 by the Paso del Norte Community Foundation and is a charitable giving campaign designed to shine a light on the essential work of nonprofit organizations and ignite the spirit of giving in our community.

This year, El Paso Giving Day will take place on Thursday, October 19, for nonprofits in our binational, tri-state region. That means it’s also time to get your nonprofit organization registered to participate by September 29.

Last year, the PdNCF hit it out of the park, with 222 nonprofit organizations participating, totaling over $1.1 million raised from over 6,000 donors and over 6,000 donations made.

Participating nonprofit organizations are diverse and provide essential services for the region’s most vulnerable communities in areas such as health, education, social services, environment, arts and quality of life in our region. Small, medium and large nonprofits in the Paso del Norte region are welcome to join and register.

Janet Wechter, founder and board president of Harmonious Home, said El Paso Giving Day helped speed up their impact in the community.

Harmonious Home is a nonprofit organization that helps prepare and design living spaces for clients who are moving from transitional homes or shelters to apartments or small homes.

“We’re going to use El Paso Giving Day as our main fundraiser,” Wechter said. “There’s already a system in place, so we don’t have to have multiple fundraisers throughout the year.”

Last year, Harmonious Home raised $33,000 during El Paso Giving Day. These funds have helped create homes for families and individuals to walk in well-designed and fully-furnished homes, giving them more time to focus on rebuilding their lives.

“The Paso del Norte Community Foundation uses the professionals they have, and they make it easier, more professional and more exciting to fundraise,” Wechter said. “PdNCF makes new and small nonprofits feel important and significant.”

Together, we can knock it out of the park to ensure the long-term success of nonprofits that continue to make a difference in the region and create a Community of Philanthropy.

We encourage you to give this year during the period of Early Giving, which runs from October 12-18, and on El Paso Giving Day, October 19. Visit elpasogivingday.org to learn how to register or to see a complete list of participating nonprofits to prepare to make your contributions of $10 or more.

Step up to the plate and donate to your favorite nonprofit and help grow our community of philanthropy.

On behalf of the Paso del Norte Community Foundation and the El Paso Giving Day Leadership Committee, we would like to thank our partnership with the El Paso Chihuahuas and sponsors, Verizon, Hoy Family Auto, PNC Bank, The Melinda and Meyer Marcus Family Foundation, Hunt Companies, Southwest Land Development Services, Workforce Solutions Borderplex, L&F Distributors, Lauterbach Borschow, Kemp Smith, Pack & Ship Express, FirstLight Federal Credit Union, Glasheen Valles Inderman, LLP Injury Lawyers, Adobe Express, and Zen Business.
