John C. Fremont Hospital Foundation Black & White Ball is Back After Three-Year Hiatus

After Three-Year Hiatus, the JCF Hospital Foundation Black & White Ball is Back

August 25, 2023 – A beloved event in Mariposa is back! The Black and White Ball was first hosted by the John C. Fremont Hospital Foundation in 1981, the year the Foundation received its charitable status.  From the beginning, it has been one of the most highly anticipated events of the year.

The pandemic put the event on hold for a few years, and over that time, the number of board members decreased. This past year, the Foundation has spent time rebuilding and now has more active members, infrastructure, and plans in place.

“With the support of professional vendors and committed volunteers from the Healthcare District, the current Foundation board of six decided we could definitely deliver a top notch, high-quality event,” said Mike Wichmann, Events Committee Chair. “The Black and White Ball is back, and it’s not to be missed!”.

This year’s Black and White Ball will be held Saturday, November 4, starting at 5:30 P.M. at the Mariposa Fairgrounds, Building A.

“Lighting the Way” is the theme.

“With the success of Measure O giving the Healthcare District the funds to build the required new hospital and new leadership expanding services that our community needs, the future looks bright,” said Wichmann. “JCFHD, with its partners, such as Health & Human Services and the Alliance, is lighting the way toward better health in the region.”

Wichmnan continued, “The Foundation realizes just how important it is to sustain community support for JCFHD at this time. The Black and White Ball provides the opportunity for you to do just that, plus it’ll be good for your health!”

Local chef, Sadie Taylor, well-known for the meals she has created for farm-to-table events in Coulterville and for the Local Grape to name just a few, is preparing a feast for this event. Her appetizers will include local pork sausage rolls with whole grain mustard, vegetable crudite and whipped feta dip, and tomato basil bruschetta. Dinner starts with a baby gem lettuce salad including roasted beets, goat cheese, walnuts, and a date vinaigrette. This is followed by your choice of entree: braised short ribs with a cauliflower puree, crispy skin steelhead trout with saffron rice with herbs and dried cherries or marinated and grilled portobello mushroom also with the saffron rice. The main dishes also include fresh vegetables. Chef Sadie will follow up these delicious meals with a black and white truffle cake, vanilla whipped cream, and fresh raspberries. Many food items will be sourced locally or regionally.

Local legendary band, “The Soul Galaxy,” will entertain with an eclectic mix of rock, jazz, country, and blues, making for great background music some of the night, and music to dance to after dinner.

In addition to dinner and dancing, the fundraiser includes fantastic items in both a silent and live auction as well as a raffle and the always popular souvenir photo booth. Like and follow the Foundation’s Facebook and Instagram pages at JCFHospitalFoundation, or bookmark its website, JCFHospitalFoundation.org, to keep posted on what items will be available. The Foundation will continue to update these pages as donations come in, as well as share additional information.

Only 250 tickets are available. Tickets are $100 each and can be purchased at John C. Fremont Healthcare District’s administration office or online at givebutter.com/jcfhf. Purchase a table of eight for $800. October 15 is the last day to purchase tickets.

Dress to the hilt or in whatever mountain formal means to you, but don’t miss this premier event.

If you would like to support the Foundation in more ways, three levels of sponsorship opportunities are also available. Each level provides significant advertising, event tickets, and other perks.  If interested, please contact Fundraising Committee members Carole Fish or Mike Wichmann at jcfhospitalfoundation@gmail.com.
