If Donald Trump truly is ‘very rich,’ what does his philanthropy say about his character?

Must Read

Donald Trump has famously said, “I am very rich.” The measure of a rich man is what he does with his money. “Rags to Riches” Ben Franklin retired young and devoted the last 40 years of his life to distinguished public service without profit. Andrew Carnegie founded a university. Bill and Melinda Gates give billions to eradicate disease, Jeff Bezos billions to fight climate change, Michael Bloomberg billions for the Arts and education.

The now-dissolved Trump University was a scam that settled a suit with its students for $25 million. The now-defunct Trump Foundation was a fraud forced to pay more than $2 million in court-ordered damages to eight different charities for illegally misusing charitable funds for political purposes.

At this very moment Billionaire Trump is dancing with the legality of using campaign donations for legal fees related to self-inflicted criminal charges. Trump may be very rich, but we are certainly very unwise if we think he has the character and the values to be our president. We are very unwise if we think he cares about us common folk.
