We join the United Nations Global Compact Programme to further promote the sustainability of our suppliers

Iberdrola takes another step forward globally in its drive for sustainability among its suppliers. For five months, the supplier SMEs benefiting from the programme (more than 220 that have joined Iberdrola) will be able to access online courses, live recorded sessions, practical guides, templates for the preparation of policies and codes and case studies of other companies. Once they have completed all the modules of the programme, SMEs will receive a certificate of participation and compliance.

All this is free of charge, including training in four modules on general aspects of sustainability, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the topics in four blocks of the Global Compact Principles and the internationalisation of the company, incentives and reporting of non-financial information.

Iberdrola has been promoting environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria for years with defined commitments. Iberdrola’s suppliers must first accept the Supplier Code of Ethics in order to enter into a business relationship with the company. This includes principles of action and clauses regarding respect for human rights, diversity and equality, occupational health and safety, anti-fraud and corruption measures, and respect for the environment, among other issues.

Iberdrola seeks supplies and suppliers that, in addition to being sustainable, are transparent, solvent, fair, ethical, and technically competitive. For this reason, the supplier is evaluated during the purchasing process to ascertain the potential risk. We verify that their modus operandi is in line with the Group’s policies, principles, and responsibilities.

In its first edition, the Training Programme: Sustainable Suppliers has the participation of more than 2,000 SME suppliers from 38 countries with a total workforce of 140,000 employees. The programme is promoted by the United Nations Global Compact and its local network in Spain together with the ICO Foundation and ICEX Spain Export and Investment, with Iberdrola and 16 other large Spanish companies, partners of the UN Global Compact Spain, participating as promoters.
