NEW CUBMERLAND — Six volunteers from the Hancock County Community Educational Outreach Service recently traveled to Grafton for the Morgantown Area CEOS meeting.

The Morgantown area is comprised of eight counties, including Brooke, Hancock, Harrison, Marion, Monongalia, Ohio, Preston and Taylor.

Each year a different county hosts the area meeting. This year’s meeting was attended by more than 100 people. Representing Hancock County were Virginia Lawrence, Betty Wagner, Vicky Cunningham, Sue Isner, Marilyn McClure and Becky Wiegers.

The Community Educational Outreach Service, WVCEOS, is a voluntary, nonprofit organization functioning in cooperation with West Virginia University Extension. It is one of the largest educational organizations in the nation.

Across the state in 2022, CEOS volunteers provided 343,000 hours of service. In 2022 the monetary value of a “volunteer hour,” per Philanthropy News Digest, reached $31.80.
