The League Club provides grants to two area nonprofits
The League Club has supported 182 agencies over the 36 years they have been giving out grants totaling over $6.5 million dollars. These monies are raised from the League Clubs Annual Fundraiser, Naples Tables, held every spring in Naples. The League Club, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization of women in Southwest Florida strengthening communities through fellowship, education, volunteerism and philanthropy.
¦ The Immokalee Foundation —When excessive wear and tear on The Immokalee Foundation’s classroom tables and chairs reached an unacceptable level, the Foundation turned to the Community Trust Fund of The League Club, Inc. The philanthropic organization came through with a grant for precisely $20,360.60 — the exact total required to purchase new classroom furniture.
Unlike a traditional public-school classroom, the classrooms at the Foundation’s Programs’ office are a daily hub of various activities. With over 1,300 students on its roster this year, The Immokalee Foundation welcomes a high number of people each day.
“As The Immokalee Foundation utilizes every dollar possible to provide our students with educational, career readiness, and professional development programming, very limited funds were available to purchase new tables and chairs,” explained Immokalee Foundation President and CEO Noemi Y Perez. “We are so grateful that the Community Trust Fund of The League Club was able to address this critical need. They once again came through for the very deserving students of Immokalee.”
¦ Books for Collier Kids (BCK), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a steady stream of new books to children in low-income families throughout Collier County, was recently awarded a $19,500 grant from Community Trust Fund of The League Club to ensure at-risk children have books at home to read, share and cherish.
“We’re grateful for The League Club’s generous grant ensuring Books for Collier Kids is able to provide 860 students a new, high-quality, age- and curriculum appropriate book each month of the 2023-2024 school year, helping these children bond with their loved ones and build a personal library,” details Books Chair Sallie Williams.
The $19,500 translates to 8,600 new titles for distribution to 860 children in pre-K, kindergarten, first and second grades at three Collier County elementary schools. Currently, 64% of the School District’s students are economically disadvantaged, more than half speak a language other than English at home and 15% have limited English proficiency. Without access to books in the home, children are at higher risk for academic failure, delinquency, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, unemployment, low productivity and welfare dependency.
Collier Community Foundation awards “Every Child Deserves Art” program
Marco Island Center for the Arts announce it has received a $10,000 grant from the Collier Community Foundation. These funds will support the “Every Child Deserves Art” program expansion. This grant will aid in the expansion of the quantity and variety of programs available to children in both visual and performing arts.
“Every Child Deserves Art” program at Marco Island Center for the Arts encompasses the “Children’s Summer Program”, which has expanded to offer 25 classes for 2023 more than doubling the number of workshops from 2022, as well as the fall “Young Artists Academy” that offers visual arts for middle and high school aged attendees. Both the summer and fall programs are free of charge for all participants. The “Every Child Deserves Art” program expanded to outreach in under-served communities through art bag distributions in 2022 in partnership with the mobile food pantry. The program will bring broader inclusion and participation through increasing the number of distributions in 2023.
Collier Community Foundation awards annual grants through a competitive application and review process. Selected organizations receive grant dollars from the Community Impact Fund. This fund is made up of donors who believe in the Foundation’s ability to identify and grant to the community’s most current needs.
Avow Celebrates Life with annual Butterfly Release in Cambier Park
Avow held its 17th Annual Butterfly Release at Cambier Park in downtown Naples April 1. The event was open to members of the community to honor and remember loved ones and show support to families and individuals who are grieving. Attendees had the opportunity to visit the butterfly exhibit, participate in several Avow Kids activities, receive a free chair massage from Avow’s massage therapy team or speak with an Avow staff member to learn more about Avow services. The Remembrance Ceremony included inspirational readings, music and a public reading of names to honor the lives of loved ones. At the close of the ceremony, the walls of the butterfly exhibit were removed, and one thousand butterflies took flight into the park in a moving display of remembrance.
The 2023 Butterfly Release raised more than $40,000 to benefit Avow’s hospice and community programs. This funding helps Avow to continue to provide support and care to all members of the community through hospice, palliative care, Avow Kids and adult grief support services. The Butterfly Release is endowed annually by the Gorlach family, ensuring that this event will continue in perpetuity to provide comfort to community by honoring and remembering their loved ones.
