Must Read

Position Description: The Communications and Outreach Manager is a new, part-time position (24 hours/week) that will work in partnership with the Director of Grantmaking to implement a communications and outreach strategy for the Foundation. This position will be mostly remote, with an expectation of 4-8 hours of in-office time each week. There is some flexibility around scheduling days worked and the number of hours in-office.

Specifically, the manager will be responsible for managing all communications – handling and tracking social media, website, email communications, and contact lists. Additionally, the manager will work with the Director of Grantmaking to identify new opportunities for community engagement and will support grantee partnership development through site visits and grantee connection events. On an as-needed basis during busy grant cycles, the manager may also provide support to grants management operations.

The ideal candidate feels a connection to the Foundation’s mission; is comfortable in a hybrid work environment with a mix of team-based and independent work; has strong communications skills; and has a desire for learning and professional growth.

Experience and Education Requirements: a background in community-based, social work, or nonprofit management is preferred; a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience is required, preferably with involvement in communications or outreach strategy. A post-secondary degree is preferred.

At the Nelson Foundation, we recognize philanthropy’s role in perpetuating white dominance and systemic oppression, and we have committed to values that place diversity, equity, and inclusion at the core of our culture and our work. BIPOC individuals and those from groups that have been historically under-represented in the field are highly encouraged to apply.

Compensation: Part-time (24 hours/week) salary of $42,000 and benefits package that includes health care coverage, 403b contributions, and paid time off

About Us

The Grace S. and W. Linton Nelson Foundation is a private, independent foundation that was established in 1984 through the generosity of the late Grace and Bill Nelson. To date, the Foundation has made grants of more than $30 million, always with a focus on children and youth in the Greater Philadelphia region. In 2022, the Foundation committed to a new vision and mission centering racial equity and social justice in its work.

The Foundation’s grantmaking includes an open application Core Grant program, which awards three-year general operating grants of $60,000, and an invitation-only Capacity Building Grant program, which makes larger multi-year grants.  The Foundation also provides opportunities for learning, development, and peer connection with its partner organizations.
