During Homecoming–Reunion Weekend, four university supporters were inducted into the Susquehanna Society for their extraordinary philanthropy. The highest giving designation, the Susquehanna Society recognizes individuals and foundations who have contributed a total of $1 million or more to Susquehanna in their lifetime.
Steven ’96 and Amy Meyer
Steven Meyer ’96 graduated from Susquehanna with a degree in accounting. In 1999, he founded Advisors Mortgage Group, which today is a multi-state mortgage banker that strives to deliver a seamless, stress-free mortgage experience to all customers. His passion for helping people attain their dreams of homeownership is the driving force behind Advisors.
In addition to helping his customers achieve their dreams, Meyer also hopes to help Susquehanna’s business students prepare to achieve theirs. In 2022, Meyer and his wife, Amy, helped the Sigmund Weis School of Business expand and enhance its signature trading room in Apfelbaum Hall.
The number of computers in the Steven T. ’96 and Amy Meyer Trading Room is now doubled at 24 and includes 12 Bloomberg terminals, which give Susquehanna students access to real-time financial market data. The room is now large enough for professors to hold full classes there.
“I hope that this room will help Susquehanna professors teach,” Meyer said. “And ultimately, I hope that it will help its students learn.”
In addition to supporting capital improvements and technology upgrades to the trading room, the Meyers’ gift also created a student-managed investment fund to allow for increased opportunities of practical learning as finance majors place and track trades by investing real funds in the stock market.
The Meyers have also endowed a fund to support faculty development and programming in the Department of Finance in perpetuity. In addition to their support of the Sigmund Weis School of Business, the Meyers also supported renovations to Seibert Hall’s model classroom — now known as the Diane and Al Meyer Classroom in honor of Mr. Meyer’s parents.
“Susquehanna helped prepare me for a career that has rewarded me tenfold,” Meyer said. “I am so proud to be able to give back to the university, which has given so much to me.”
The Rev. William H. ’38 and Dorothy Warren Hudson
The late Hudsons were inducted into the Susquehanna Society posthumously.
Their generous estate established William H. and Dorothy Hudson Scholarship Endowment. that provides scholarship support to qualifying students from Pennsylvania or Delaware studying history, music, English literature, nursing, religion or philosophy.
William was a pastor with the United Methodist Church for nearly 50 years. He graduated from Susquehanna in 1938 after studying philosophy and literature and earned additional degrees from Drew Theological Seminary in 1941 and Temple School of Theology in 1951. For most of his career, he was based in churches in southern Delaware. William passed away on Sept. 21, 2001.
Dorothy was interested in helping people and in music and education. She had a long career as an educator at all levels, including community college.
Dorothy played organ at her husband’s various congregations. In her retirement, she continued to play organ at local churches, weddings, funerals and retirement communities well into her 80s. Dorothy died on April 21, 2021.
