Total Energies has reiterated its commitment to protecting the environment and promoting climate actions, while provoking environmental consciousness among communities and young ones.
The Managing Director, Dr. Samba Seye, stated this at Obele Community High School and Ideal Girls School, Lagos State to commemorate the World Clean Up Day. The commemoration, which was implemented by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), had company officials planting trees in the schools’ environment.
Seye noted the company’s commitment to meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through programmes and activities. “We have placed sustainable development at the heart of all our projects and operations, while building strong partnerships with stakeholders,” he stated.
He added that the firm’s objective is to meet some of UN SDGs through employee volunteering, awareness creation on the journey towards a circular economy, as well as educating communities on the need to protect the environment and leave behind a sustainable world for future generations.
Seye further urged the communities to sustain environmentally sustainable practices and ensure a cleaner world.
The General Manager, Adesuwa Adewole, said the bean trees planted are economic trees, which are good for fruits. “It means that in the next couple of years, they will have mangos, cherries, among others, they can actually eat them, but beyond that, these are carbon seeds. It ensures reduction of carbon footprint within the environment.”
Deputy Director, Office of Environmental Services, Lagos Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Olabode Adeola, stated the essence of keeping the environment clean.
“When you clean the environment, you make the environment conducive for people to live in. When it’s dirty, there are bound to be some communicable diseases that we can get from the environment. Cleaning the environment is significant as it makes our lives better for the unborn ones,” he said.
