Dua Lipa’s Philanthropy Efforts – BORGEN

Must Read

DENVER, Colorado — Dua Lipa has always been vocal about remembering her roots and “where she came from.” In 2016, Dua Lipa’s philanthropy efforts with the Sunny Hill Foundation started. Sunny Hill Foundation is a charity organization based in Prishtina, Kosovo with a mission to reduce injustice and poverty in Kosovo while strengthening democratic values, promoting international cooperation and advancing human achievement. Dua Lipa is not only the founder but the patron of Sunny Hill Foundation with her father, Dukagjin Lipa, as the founder and chairman.

Sunny Hill Foundation and Global Citizen

Sunny Hill Foundation has done impactful work in Kosovo. Some organizations they have helped are PEMA Daycare for Disabled Children, the National Association of Autism, Care for Kosovo Kids and Down Syndrome Kosova. All these organizations from Kosovo were able to receive financial support and health and educational resources for children within the country.

Dua Lipa is also a partner with Global Citizen. Global Citizen is a movement that aims to end extreme poverty globally by 2030. Over a million Global Citizens help to take action on the issue while also raising funds for the cause. Global Citizen listed Dua Lipa on its “Britain’s Top 25 Most Influential Women” list in 2018 as “the youngest on the list.”

UNICEF

In 2019, Dua Lipa joined UNICEF in traveling to Lebanon to meet refugee children and young people. During that time, she spoke to the children about the obstacles they face daily, such as getting an education and finding jobs and other opportunities.

She also visited the Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training (LOST) NGO in the Bekaa Valley. During that time, she mentioned that “…you don’t really feel the absolute dire circumstances for refugees from Syria until you see them for yourself,” compared to the challenges and images depicted on TV.

Personal Experience

What truly left a mark on her is her personal experience. Dua Lipa’s parents fled the Balkans in 1992 and built a life for their family in a new area. This experience allowed her to connect to refugee children and families, fueling her desire to continue to be part of the movement for UNICEF and its partners. Later in 2020, Dua Lipa donated signed merchandise to UNICEF’s auction to raise funds for children affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

For all her hard work in the spread of international awareness of Albania, Dua Lipa was granted Albanian citizenship in 2022.

Dua Lipa’s philanthropy efforts have been aided by her fame and influence, making it possible to support various charitable causes, from global poverty and social justice to mental health. Her philanthropic work serves as an inspiration to her fans and demonstrates the power of celebrities to make a positive impact on the world.
