Dr. Bronner’s Names Int’l Philanthropy Initiative Recipients

Must Read

“Think globally, act locally” is a phrase that’s been part of environmental and philanthropic conversations for decades.

It’s also a call to action that Dr. Bronner’s, the organic and fair-trade soap and body care brand, has championed since its beginnings 75 years ago. Today, the company has updated that phrase, according to Dr. Bronner’s President Michael Bronner, to “global mission, local impact.”

The Vista-based company’s philanthropic reach is legendary, with Dr. Bronner’s Family Foundation carrying on founder Emanuel Bronner and his family’s legacy of activism and community service.

Most recently, Dr. Bronner’s announced the 2022 recipients of funding through the company’s All-One International Initiative, which just concluded its fourth year. Its All-One International Initiative was created to spread a focus on giving and activism outside the U.S. and is at the heart of the company’s global growth strategy, says Michael Bronner.

Dr. Bronner’s All-One International is an umbrella initiative with chapters around the world. Localized mission-aligned brand activism and advocacy is a priority for Dr. Bronner’s and its local distributors in each of the markets the company sells outside the United States.

“Dr. Bronner’s All-One International Initiative funds a diverse ecosystem of advocacy and activism including ocean conservation and animal advocacy, human rights and social justice work, as well as environmental protection and the promotion of regenerative agriculture as an alternative to industrial systems,” Bronner said.

The program takes an “ecosystems approach” to its support of causes and activism — believing that change is driven by movements, and effective movements are best comprised of a healthy, diverse, and equitable ecosystem of organizations, projects, people, and strategies, he said.

From Australia to Korea to the United Kingdom, Dr. Bronner’s global initiative supports grassroots groups working on limited budgets as well as larger nonprofits in need of funding for specific projects.

“As a company priority, the Dr. Bronner’s All-One International Initiative ensures our brand activism will have an impact in markets where our products are sold around the world; and will ensure that our impact is aligned with our local partners and what is relevant to them,” Bronner said. “Our distributors are deeply inspired by the extraordinary organizations we are supporting and are excited to help elevate awareness of these causes globally.”

Long known for its philanthropy inside the U.S., Dr. Bronner’s has given about $100 million since its founding to support charities and local activism. Between 2019 and 2022, the company contributed more than $760,000 through the All-One International Initiative.

In 2022, Dr. Bronner’s All-One International Initiative financially supported 41 organizations and efforts around the world. In addition to providing funding totaling over $254,000 last year, Dr. Bronner’s and its distributors also supported partner organizations in the All-One International Initiative by raising awareness through social media, providing product donations, event collaboration and cause marketing efforts.

Eighteen markets participated in the All-One International Initiative in 2022: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, The Netherlands, Panama, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.

Among its work in North America, the company recently launched a special advocacy label soap bottle in Canada, with the call-to-action to “Protect Orcas!”
