Education.

That’s the mission of a Detroit-based organization that’s spent the last 30 years dedicated to helping Detroit residents realize their dreams through scholarships and grants.

This weekend, the group is hoping to drum up more funding to reach even higher in its mission.

The Minerva Education and Development Foundation (MEDF) is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a charity gala from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29, at the Roostertail.

The event, titled “Thirty and Thriving Together: A Celebration of MEDF’s Legacy in Philanthropy”, will honor three decades of diligent effort from the organization to support Detroit residents and students, according to a news release.

MEDF has given more than $700,000 in scholarships and grants to high school and college students in the city, as well as donated funds to nonprofits supporting Detroit residents, according to their website.

The event will feature a variety of inclusions for attendees including entertainment and recognition of scholars. Entertainers include comedian Mike Bonner as the Master of Ceremonies and Musique Noire, a musician.
