LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – daVinci’s is a Lincoln staple that’s served Easter lunch to those in need for 38 years, starting up again after COVID-19.
“It’s amazing because you get to see all the people that you’ve missed,” owner Kelly Knudson said. “There’s a lot of people here that need what we’re doing.”
The tradition requires over 50 volunteers to serve and prepare food, as well as wait on tables and greet guests.
In 2023, there are three generations of volunteers helping out, including some who have been there since the beginning, as well as new faces.
“I think it’s a lot of fun,” said 13-year-old Taylor Hacker. “I like seeing people happy, and it just feels really good to make people feel happy.”
This year is the first Easter lunch since COVID-19, and many volunteers felt like it was a giant family reunion.
“It feels like a big family,” Volunteer Coordinator Brianna Knudson said. “This is our Easter family that gets together every year.”
Knudson said his father started the business in 1978 and said their success wouldn’t be possible without the Lincoln community.
“That’s what it’s all about- giving back to the community that supports you,” Knudson said.
