Cuban foreign minister denounces poor implementation of UN goals

Must Read

Barely 12 percent of the goals are on track, which means, among other aspects, that 575 million people will still be living in extreme poverty by 2030, if current trends continue, the Foreign Minister wrote on his Twitter account.

He charged that “carbon dioxide levels continue to rise on a scale not seen in two million years.

The head of Cuban diplomacy noted at at the current rate, it could take the world up to 286 years to close gender gaps in legal protection and eliminate discriminatory laws.”

Rodriguez expressed his conviction that the UN member States and international organizations have time to reverse this trend.

On Thursday, he revealed data from a UN report indicating that about 50 percent of the goals have made moderate progress or are seriously deviated, and 30 percent are stagnant or have regressed.

In this regard, Rodriguez called on the international community to modify the terms of the agreement and accelerate the timetable for action, so that the situation of non-compliance of what was agreed upon is reversed in seven years.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the heart of the 2030 Agenda and show a comprehensive, indivisible look and renewed international collaboration. They are made up of 17 goals, 169 objectives, 247 global indicators and 28 regional indicators.
