Each year Community Foundation Program Director Devan Gagliardo meets with students at area high schools and talks with them about nonprofits and philanthropy. In the spring, the students select the Grundy area nonprofits they want to hear from, and then Devan schedules those nonprofits to make presentations to the students.
In April, the Community Foundation gives each Young Philanthropy team $5,000 to grant out for the causes they care about, and the Grundy County non-profits all learn, at the same special event in May, who the Young Philanthropists have chosen to receive the funds.
On May 11th, GFGC hosted this year’s Young Philanthropists Grant Awards Night Dinner at the Morris Country Club and the usual expected energy shown by these amazing students was abundant. Handing out $20K in grant funds to a dozen non-profit recipients highlighted an evening filled with compassion and appreciation.
Respective Schools and recipient award amounts were designated as follows: Coal City High School – Megan’s Mission $1,000; Beans-N-Bites $2,000; Coal City Backpack Program $2,000.
Gardner-South Wilmington High School – GSW Student Assistance Fund $900; Beans-N-Bites $1,350; CASA of River Valley $1,200; Grundy County Sheriff’s Department $350; Catholic Charities $1,200.
Morris Community High School – Morris Rotary Backpack Program $500; CASA of River Valley $3,000; Children’s Advocacy Center $1,500.
Seneca High School – Grundy Area PADS $833; CASA of River Valley $2,500; We Care of Grundy County $833; Grundy County Health Department $833.
