Chaffee County Community Foundation presented its annual awards recognizing nonprofits Tuesday at the Community Summit, an all-day event at Chaffee County Fairgrounds.

In presenting the awards Betsy Dittenber, foundation executive director, said, “Everyone here makes our community better, and we are here to help with your great ideas.”

Dittenber and Megan Leesley, chair of the foundation board, presented the awards.

Organization of the Year went to Full Circle Restorative Justice with Jared Buchan, Natalie Millis and Eric S. Lee accepting. The award recognizes an outstanding nonprofit organization that has served Chaffee County with innovation, demonstrated high-impact programming and dedication to constant improvement.

The award presentation stated that Full Circle Restorative Justice is making a significant contribution to the vitality of the local community by meeting a significant need with effective solutions. FCRJ seeks to prevent future violence or disruption by finding responses to law-breaking behavior that are proportionate, meaningful and enforce accountability while repairing harm to victims.

Volunteer of the Year Award went to Carol Merovka of The Alliance, who was unable to attend. Shelley Schreiner, executive director of The Alliance, accepted it on her behalf. The award recognizes an outstanding individual who is volunteering time and talent in the nonprofit sector of Chaffee County. The Alliance’s mission is to empower individuals beyond domestic violence and sexual violence through education, services and social change.

Philanthropist of the Year Award went to Katy Welter. The award recognizes an outstanding donor whose giving has made a significant impact in Chaffee County.

In accepting, Welter said, “Philanthropy is a choice to make shared visions come true. It isn’t just giving money. It provides expertise, time and talent that are just as meaningful and supports our community so it can survive and thrive.”
