BUCKHANNON – Local community members are invited to unite for a good cause for the Heroes for Hope Pi-K philanthropy event hosted by the sisters of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
The sisters of Alpha Delta Pi welcome the public to participate in the 5K run/walk fundraiser event on Saturday, Sept. 30, to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh and Morgantown.
The Ronald McDonald House provides “families with a ‘home-away-from-home’ for seriously ill children receiving medical treatment, and is committed to helping children and their families lead happier, healthier and more productive lives,” according to their website.
Runners and walkers will meet at the WVWC Chapel Oval on Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. The Pi-K course will take them on a scenic and tranquil experience around the Buckhannon River Walk.
In preparation for a 5K run/walk event, Christine Scronce – Director of Philanthropy for the Alpha Delta Pi sorority – encourages participants to get outside to run or walk, pace yourself and simply have fun!
Whether a Marvel or DC Comics fan, Heroes for Hope Pi-K participants are also encouraged to dress as their favorite superhero.
To sweeten the deal, Stone Tower Brews of Buckhannon has graciously donated a $15 gift card to the first-place winner of the 5K and another $15 gift card to the individual with the best costume.
Some sisters of the Wesleyan sorority have been positively impacted by the mission and services of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh and Morgantown, and giving back to the organization that once supported them and their families is a full-circle moment.
Runners and/or walkers are encouraged to register for the Heroes for Hope Pi-K here. The entry fee is $10 for the general public, or $5 for Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School and Buckhannon-Upshur High School athletes. The optional Heroes for Hope Pi-K event T-shirt costs $20.
