Must Read

ASICS has released its 2022 Sustainability Report, which summarises the company’s progress towards medium- and long-term sustainability targets.

Integrated in its VISION2030 and mid-term plan, ASICS notes that its sustainability framework encompasses two main pillars – People and Planet. Each have sustainability actions in alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

According to the company, the headline result for 2022 is… ‘introducing the world’s lowest CO₂ emissions sneaker – GEL-LYTE III CM 1.951 – emitting just 1.95 CO₂e per pair across its product lifecycle.’

Yasuhito Hirota, President, CEO and COO, Representative Director of ASICS, said “Sustainability is a key theme as we work towards achieving our targets outlined in ASICS’s long-term vision VISION2030.

“To achieve a sound mind in a sound body, we need a sound Earth. We will work to create positive impact towards a more sustainable future.”

ASICS also announced the results of its global research ‘ASICS State of Mind Index2’, which indicated a positive link between exercise and mental wellbeing. ASICS’ research found that just 15 minutes and 9 seconds of movement may be all it takes to begin feeling the mood-boosting effects.

Meanwhile, in 2022, the percentage of female managers at ASICS increased from 33.7% to 38.3%. ASICS added that it is committed to achieving a ratio of female representation in management and senior positions of at least 35% globally by 2023.

In 2022, ASICS developed ‘ASICS Human Rights Policy3’ and established a Human Rights Committee to define expectations and guidance for suppliers to ensure ASICS takes responsibility for its impacts throughout the value chain.

‘As part of human rights due to diligence, ASICS recognises the impact of purchasing practices on workers in the supply chain and promotes responsible purchase practice to improve suppliers’ working conditions.’

Toward achieving net zero emissions by 2050, ASICS has reduced CO₂ emissions by 22.0% from its direct operations in 2022. (Compared to 2015 baseline levels) ASICS also worked closely with partner factories to implement the ASICS Green Procurement Policy to promote CO₂ reduction across supply chains such as to increase the use of renewable energy.

ASICS is also making progress towards replacing 100% of the polyester used by 2030, and has replaced more than 30% of standard polyester materials in 2022.
