TrustAfrica and Urgent Action Fund-Africa, together with Coalition for Dialogue on Africa, have partnered to launch the Pan-African and Feminist Philanthropies Initiative. The Initiative aims to mobilise massive new resources for pan-African and feminist philanthropic work in Africa and will be ‘given in novel and transformative ways’ according to a statement from the new Initiative.
The Initiative was launched earlier this month at an event in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. One key goal is to strengthen the organic and formal ecosystems of pan-African and feminist philanthropies based on mutuality, self-determination, and agency, through shared infrastructure and mechanisms that support, connect, and strengthen local constituencies and movements.
In the first year, the partners plan to establish a pan-African and feminist endowment with a $25 million end-of-year goal, with contributions from a diverse range of existing and new individuals and institutional funders. The Initiative plans to raise $500 million in five years, and $1 billion by ten years.
