Youth In Philanthropy teens award $10K grant to Rainbow Therapeutic Riding Center

Must Read

Northern
Piedmont Community Foundation’s (NPCF) Youth In Philanthropy (YIP) leadership
program has voted to award this year’s $10,000 Youth In Philanthropy grant to Haymarket-based
Rainbow Therapeutic Riding Center.

The
YIP leadership program is designed to provide young people with guidance,
money, and mentorship by funding a local nonprofit organization via grant
application process.

The
program challenges participants to demonstrate leadership, solve problems, study
proposals, manage budgets, and work collaboratively.

This
year’s cohort is comprised of high school teenagers from each of the four
counties NPCF supports: Fauquier, Culpeper, Rappahannock, and Madison.

Rainbow
Therapeutic Riding Center describes itself as “a place where individuals
with special challenges come together, and where victories — some dramatic,
some modest, but all significant — are joyously celebrated through equine
therapy.”

Established
in 1985, Rainbow Therapeutic Riding Center uses a wide variety of equine
activities to address participants’ individual needs. These individual needs
vary in multiple areas, such as mental health and cognitive disabilities.

The
Crabtree Family Foundation and Dot and Rick Lessard funded YIP.

Established
in 2000, Warrenton-based Northern Piedmont Community Foundation is a public
charity that builds philanthropic capital to enhance and preserve the quality
of life in Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, and Rappahannock counties and to strengthen
the region’s nonprofit organizations.
