SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP — Youth Philanthropy Boards, funded by the Ashtabula Foundation, will accept applications through Dec. 1.
The Lakeside High School Youth Philanthropy Board with advisor, Colleen Wheeler, consists of 12 members.
“The goal of the board is to gain knowledge about the impact local charities have on the welfare of the community and to provide assistance through grants to help make their charitable programs a success,” Wheeler said.
The LHS members are meeting and preparing for their first community activity, an Alice in Wonderland themed trunk or treat for Halloween.
The student board is also now accepting grant applications from Ashtabula County nonprofit 501(C)(3) charities.
The students have been studying the grant evaluation process through which they will award $5,000, provided by the Ashtabula Foundation.
The deadline for submitting grant applications is Dec. 1. Each applicant can apply for two school grants.
The board members will then analyze the grant applications, interview the applicants and determine which programs they believe will make the most positive impacts for their community.
Grant money will be presented at a ceremony in the spring of 2024.
Organizations seeking an application form can find one on the Ashtabula Foundation website or by contacting Wheeler at colleen.wheeler@aacs.net.
