As the head of United Way Worldwide since October 2021, Williams has been focused on aligning stronger partnerships with the nonprofit’s 45,000 corporate partners and managing its 1.5 million volunteers.
The first Black woman to lead the organization, Williams brings 30-plus years of management experience to her position at UWW, including executive leadership roles at major nonprofits. She previously served as president and CEO of Easterseals and spent 11 years as executive vice president, general counsel and chief administration officer at the YMCA of the USA. Williams was also an interfaith liaison for the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund.
Williams earned her bachelor’s degree in American government from the University of Virginia, a law degree from the University of Texas School of Law and a master of divinity degree from Virginia Union University’s Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology. She began her career as an officer in the United States Air Force, serving in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps.
