Unveiling the State’s Five Leading Corporate Philanthropists
The Phoenix Business Journal researched businesses in Arizona and ranked them by the 2021 cash contributions they made to Arizona charities. This included donations made directly or via a corporate foundation.
Ranked in first place, based on the total amount of charitable donations they made, was the Arizona Public Service. In 2021, they donated $12.18 million in cash to local organizations in Arizona.
Wells Fargo was second on the list, donating $6.25 million to Arizona organizations. This was only a small percentage of the donations made by the company. Across the United States, they donated $268 million, which was well down on the previous year’s total of $390 million.

While it is great to see the donations made by these large corporations, it is interesting to compare them to the philanthropy of Arizona’s most generous couple.
Arizona real estate developers Daryl and Christine Burton donated $123.9 million over the same period. The Burtons donated to projects “to provide underserved youths with college and career-readiness training, STEM education, and mentorship and leadership-development programs.”
