Dallas charity to give away 25,000 maternity and postpartum garments to moms in need

Must Read

A Dallas-based nonprofit is helping new moms and mothers-to-be with an often-overlooked need – well-fitting and functional apparel during pregnancy and after baby’s birth.

From Ordinary to Extraordinary (F.O.T.E)will give away 20,000 new nursing bras and over 5,000 pieces of maternity and postpartum clothing for mothers in need at a special event on Wednesday, July 19. In addition to bras and clothing, F.O.T.E also will hand out free diapers and wipes.

All recipients need to do is show up – there’s no reservation, ticketing, or cost associated with the event. Participants will be invited to pick out the items they’d like to take home.

The giveaway will take place Wednesday, July 19 from 10 am-4 pm at F.O.T.E School of Beauty, 5757 Samuell Blvd., #100, Dallas, 75228.

F.O.T.E helps empower victims of abuse by teaching them a skilled trade to help them succeed. Founder and CEO Antoria Gillon is a mom of four and an abuse victim who has a heart for serving moms in the Dallas community who are in need of emotional, financial, and physical support, she says.

Gillon began F.O.T.E, she says, because she wanted to help a young mother in need out of a domestic abuse situation. “Now, F.O.T.E offers many programs that serve abused victims in the local Dallas community such as a long-term maternity home for pregnant moms and moms with children under 3, a beauty school for students to earn their cosmetology license, and opportunities to start their own businesses and gain clients,” says a press release.

F.O.T.E also offers programs for teens, including a popular Teen Control program in the summer months, which helps teenagers learn practical and emotional support skills.

The organization is not in need of donations for the July 19 giveaway, a spokeswoman says. All items have been donated by Ingrid+Isabel, a maternity brand with a focus on giving back to communities.

“Giving back is an important part of who we are,” the company says on its website. “Through our ongoing partnerships with March of Dimes, Homeless Prenatal Program, and From Ordinary to Extraordinary, we’ve donated over $2 million in maternity and nursing essentials to support NICU moms, victims of domestic violence, and homeless mothers working to get back on their feet.”
