PARKERSBURG — Fred Rader has officially taken over as executive director of the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation.

Rader joined the foundation staff as associate director in May 2022 after 39 years as community development director for the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Council. He succeeds Judy Sjojstedt Ritchie, the foundation’s longest-serving director, who now has the title of director emerita.

Rader also served on the foundation’s Board of Directors for 17 years, two of them as chairman. He was instrumental in helping to start up foundation’s Little Kanawha Area Community Foundation affiliate serving Calhoun, Gilmer, and Wirt counties.

A Wirt County native, Fred has a special fondness for the foundation’s work to cultivate philanthropy in rural communities through its affiliate network (Doddridge County Community Foundation, Little Kanawha Area Community Foundation, Ritchie County Community Foundation and its new Lewis County Community Foundation Fund). He is married to Carol (Schmitt) Rader, with two children, and two grandchildren.

Rader said his favorite thing about the foundation is “helping donors make a positive impact on community needs.”

The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation works in partnership with its local affiliates to provide leadership and build permanent philanthropic resources in an 11-county service area.
