LOCAL charitable trusts, foundations, grant making and non-grant making organisations start the eight East Africa Philanthropy Conference here today.
The three-day meeting will see members promote philanthropy and deliberate on how African philanthropy can push the sector beyond conversations by specifically focusing on futuristic advancement, tireless generosity and revitalising philanthropy.
A statement released on Tuesday by Mr Evans Okinyi, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), East Africa Philanthropy Network (EAPN), said the organisation in collaboration with Legal Service Facility (LSF) and other members organised the conference.
“Taking place from 28th to 30th June 2023 in Zanzibar at Madinat Al Bahr Business & Spa Hotel, the conference is a gathering of over 300 practitioners and philanthropic organisations in the region.
“It provides a platform for sharing experiences, collective reflection, as well as the curation and development of philanthropic and social tools and investment practices for the continent’s people and partners,” Mr Okinyi said in the statement.
The eighth EAPC is an in-person event aimed at spurring philanthropy actors towards engaging actionable tools to build a resilient sector by aligning to the changes inherent and unanticipated in the ecosystem and establish collaborations that embrace the new demands of philanthropy while creating an environment for philanthropy to thrive.
The CEO noted that the conference will provide industry players and practitioners an opportunity to unpack the broader theme of ‘Systems Transformations Catalysing Collective Action’, dedicating day one and two to two sub-themes and day three to one sub-theme.
He mentioned the themes as Driving Collective Action for Philanthropy: A System Wide Approach to Transformation; Revitalising Systems: Solidarity in Philanthropy and Dynamising Philanthropy: Forging a Path to Impact.
Others are The Renaissance of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion: Forging a Path to a Thriving Future and A Collective Approach to Adaptation and Resilience in Philanthropy.
A key output expected from the convening is to yield systems change frameworks for an agile and receptive practice of philanthropy in Africa within four thematic by way of amplifying impact through a vibrant philanthropy, enabling environment: evidence approach towards a stronger ecosystem, untiring generosity through challenging times and revitalising and re-imagining the future; building on people power.
Mr Okinyi said collectively and collaboratively, the meeting will centre on how African philanthropy can push the sector beyond conversations by specifically focusing on futuristic advancement, tireless generosity and revitalising philanthropy.
Distinguished practitioners and influential philanthropic entities from both regional and global domains will converge on a dynamic, inclusive, and outcome-driven platform for stakeholders in African and global philanthropy to engage in strategic deliberations, forge invaluable connections, introspect on accomplishments, and curate transformative initiatives that address prevailing sectoral accomplishments and hurdles.
