A Closer Look at Karol G’s Philanthropy

DEVON, United Kingdom — Karol G is one of Colombia’s most successful artists. With 22 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, more than 1.3 billion streams on Spotify, 25 music awards and her most recent album “Mañana Será Bonito” debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart, Karol G has gained popularity globally. In addition to her musical achievements, Karol G’s philanthropy makes her a revered celebrity. Not only does she push Latin American music’s popularity to global levels but she also gives back to Latin America with her humanitarian acts of kindness.

Benefit Concert in Guatemala, 2018

Guatemala’s volcano Volcán de Fuego erupted on June 3, 2018. ReliefWeb reports that the eruption led to more than 200 deaths and 260 missing persons cases. Hundreds of others faced injuries or health impacts due to the smoke, among other effects.

During that time, the singer-songwriter Karol G was on her “Unstoppable Tour” and had planned to perform in Guatemala on June 30. Two days after the volcano erupted, Karol G took to social media to announce that she would donate the profits from her concert in Guatemala to help victims of the disaster. The profits reached an estimated $15,000 and Karol G allocated the funding to the Adentro Foundation to build homes for the displaced.

Helping COVID-19 Affected Families, 2020

During Colombia’s mandatory lockdown following the COVID-19 outbreak, many families faced economic impacts due to restrictions and business shutdowns. In response to this situation, Karol G joined forces with humanitarian organizations and offered financial support to 600 Colombian families based in Medellín by paying their rent and donating food supplies, diapers, health supplies and other necessities.

Con Cora Foundation, 2022

In 2022, Karol G started the Con Cora Foundation to promote disadvantaged women’s economic, social, psychological and artistic development. That same year, the Con Cora Foundation partnered with the She Is Foundation and revealed their joint goal of helping a total of 1 million women and girls by 2030.

The She Is Foundation is dedicated to empowering women and girls from Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic through education in the sciences, technology and entrepreneurship. A recent example of the She Is Foundation’s success is illustrated by the story of Salomé, one of 35 young girls chosen to receive STEM training from the NASA Space Centre in Houston.

Scholarships to Female Inmates

In March 2023, the Con Cora Foundation partnered with Acción Interna Foundation to offer scholarships to older female inmates in Bogotá who have completed or almost complete their sentences and the female family members of the female inmates who are still completing their sentences.

The scholarship aims to help these women develop the skills and knowledge to secure employment and reintegrate into society. The classes offered will dabble in different topics such as job interview training, resume building, financial education, customer service and technological tool management.

Funding a Local Football School

Last but not least, a local football school in the impoverished mountainous Commune 13 area of Medellín, revealed Karol G has provided monetary support for the teams’ uniforms for the past two years. Comuna 13 Soccer School trains 300 children, including children from low-income families. In addition to uniform purchases, Karol G provides support to help pay the football trainer’s salary.

Karol G’s philanthropy speaks for itself. Not only has the artist gone above and beyond in her music career but she also has an ever-present philanthropic commitment to helping those in need.
