413 Spanish Beaches Receive Prestigious Awards for Quality, Sustainability & Safety

The Q for Quality, S for Sustainability, and Safe Tourism Certified flags were bestowed upon the mayors of 106 municipalities in Spain by the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality (ICTE).

These municipalities have successfully achieved one of the esteemed flags granted by the ICTE, following an independent audit that ensures their adherence to stringent standards of quality, sustainability, and safety, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

In particular, this year witnessed the recognition of 309 beaches and 27 nautical sports facilities with the Q quality seals.

Furthermore, an additional 64 S Sustainability Flags have been bestowed upon beaches and nautical sports facilities. The S mark represents a seal developed by the ICTE, serving the purpose of ensuring adherence to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in the UN 2030 Agenda. Specifically, these flags signify the fulfilment of sustainable practices in the provision of tourist services at the beach.

In conclusion, the coastal town halls in Spain have managed to obtain certification for a combined total of 40 beaches and five nautical sports facilities, endorsing them with the esteemed Safe Tourism Certified seal established by the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality.

When categorised by Autonomous Communities, Andalusia takes the lead in the ranking with the highest number of certified beaches, boasting a total of 133 Q flags.

Following closely behind is the Valencian Community with 54 certified beaches, the Region of Murcia with 41, the Balearic Islands with 24, Galicia with 23, and Catalonia with 16. Cantabria has achieved 12 Q flags, while both Asturias and the Canary Islands have obtained three. Euskadi concludes the ranking with one Q flag.

As for nautical sports facilities, the Region of Murcia leads the way with 16 certifications, followed by the Balearic Islands with five, the Valencian Community with four, and Andalusia with two.

In terms of the S Sustainability Flag, the Region of Murcia has obtained the highest number of certifications, with 28 in total. Andalusia closely follows with 23 certifications, and the Valencian Community has secured two certifications. Additionally, in the Valencian Community, two nautical sports facilities have secured the S Sustainability Flag.

When it comes to the Safe Tourism Certified Flags, Andalusia holds the top position with 34 certified beaches, followed by Catalonia with four and the Valencian Community with two. Similarly, Andalusia leads in the Safe Tourism Certified Flags category with 34 certified beaches, while Catalonia follows with four and the Valencian Community with two.

Moreover, the Balearic Islands have managed to obtain certification for four nautical sports facilities, with the Valencian Community having an additional certified facility.
